Bifurcations 2007
In 2007 Marek Kijewski initiated the Bifurcations residency at the Centre of Polish Sculpture in Orońsko. Participants included Piotr Kurka, Robert Rumas, Julita Wójcik, Joanna Rajkowska, Oskar Dawicki and Małgorzata Malinowska.
First Element
The prototype of First Element was made during the residency: a seated dog with a large heart on its chest. The project comprised thirteen figures — twelve in blue and red and one in gold. Kijewski died on 19 August 2007 before completing the ensemble.
Posthumous realisations
The prototype and drawings were used to reconstruct the ensemble shown at the Bifurcations exhibition in Orońsko in 2008. The project was also presented at Warsaw’s appendix2 gallery in 2009.
